![]() I learned about the peace movement as a child, during the Vietnam War. As I grew, I learned that it is better to practice peace every day than to celebrate it once in a while. Now as a baby boomer, I try to accomplish that and advocate for it. Why Practice Peace EverydayThere are lots of definitions of peace, but the main jist for me is the end of war and strife globally. As a member of the human race, I want us to achieve that goal. It’s up to us to work towards it. But, we can’t do it occasionally. If we put peace into practice in all we do, it is contagious. Peace will spread even if we begin with loving our families and friends. Acting present with love in our hearts, though is the beginning. And it is a huge way for others to recognize that peace is easier than hate or ill will. How to Practice PeaceToday is one example of how to practice peace, BlogBlast for Peace, an ongoing work by Mimi Lenox of Mimi Writes. Bloggers write posts and share Peace Globes. We invite others to join in, to read posts, to share them on social media. We bring up issues, beliefs and start conversations. I am grateful for this day as I learn so much. My method of practicing peace every day may not be yours, but I’d still like to share it. My hope is that it inspires you. Please don’t think that I’m perfect. I have bad days, where I do things that I’m ashamed of. I learn from them to “get better” at my process. Peace for me is a strong belief which makes it easier to take action each day. It is something I focus on in all of my interactions. My main credence is that I don’t know how it is to walk in another’s shoes. I practice peace with gentleness, compassion and empathy. Subtle acts, often play a big role in sharing peace. Then there is advocating for others, a much bigger undertaking. Speaking up for issues that hinder peace and human dignity is another means of spreading peace. I try to practice peace every day, but it is no longer an effort. It is my life’s intention. If you are wondering about the text on the peace globe – Dona Nobis Pacem, it is Latin for Grant us peace. I wish you peace today and every day. I leave you with a quote about practicing peace: It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it. – Eleanor Roosevelt The post Practice Peace Every Day #Blog4Peace appeared first on BrainFoggles. |
