Winning a contest, a photobomb, the delivery of a bouquet of flowers and finding money in your pocket – all fun surprises that many of us have encountered. What if the surprise totally changes your life? Like a marriage proposal, a new job offer, the need to move across country? Totally different types of shock, one that put a smile on your face and you may remember. The other, you won’t ever forget.
Now consider surprises that make you go, “What”. Like, learning that you’re the father of 533 children. In the movie, Delivery Man, that’s exactly what happens to David Wozniak played by Vince Vaughn. There was a huge mistake at the fertility clinic and now about 150 of these children want to get to know him. Of course any man would be stunned, but for David this news is completely against his personality.

As an unreliable, man who has no purpose in life, David can’t even visualize being a father of one child. As time goes on though, he has a change of heart. Sort of like many of us, who have said that we’ll never have children, or we need to wait to fill in the blank (have more money, live in a better place, etc.) to get pregnant and then it happens.
It’s been like that with me with pregnancy, with moving, with getting money I didn’t expect, or finding a friend after years of being apart. And the thing is we can choose to freak out over the stuff we don’t have control over and regret it, or freak out and find a way to move on. The moving on part can be hard, but it can turn out to be one of the most amazing things ever. You just don’t know until you make that choice.
Now, don’t go thinking that Delivery Man is only about life lessons since this post got all serious on you. It’s funny, very funny (from the trailers I’ve seen). I plan on seeing it when it comes out in theaters on November 22nd. What about you?
