How to Live in the Moment #DontSweatAdventure

Along my journey with the Universal Women, we are on Chapter 10 of Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff which focuses on how to live in the moment. As literate as I can be, all I can say is, “Wow!” because this is exactly what I need. Right now.

I’m a worrier by nature with the disorder of Generalized Anxiety written all over my medical chart. Anxiety runs in my family and it’s been with me since I was a child. Medications and counseling help me a great deal. And so does looking at life in a new way. Chapter 10, Learn to Live in the Present Moment is one of the tools I can use.

As I become older and go through many life changes, I realize how much I miss out on by worrying about the future. I think of too many things at once, which causes chaos and confusion. The things that matter most to me– love, family, doing good, helping others are pushed aside. Plus, as the author, Dr. Carlson explains, we “…postpone our gratification, our stated priorities, and our happiness, often convincing ourselves that ‘someday’ will be better than today.”

How to Live in the Moment Quote

So what am I doing to live life in the moment?

  1. Affirmations – saying phrases out loud for calm and inner peace. I especially like these affirmations.
  2. Photos – Beautiful photos of my family and friends, places I’ve visited, events, etc. help me to be grateful and want more of this emotion.
  3. Just Go With It – Being more flexible in all areas of life helps me see that it’s not necessary to plan everything or to know outcomes.

Learning how to live in the moment is an ongoing process for me. Let me know your thoughts.
